South Africa’s vibrant youth radio station, 5FM, is set to amplify the excitement of Comic Con Africa, the continent’s premier pop culture and gaming event, which will take over the Johannesburg Expo Centre from 28 to 31 August 2025. This year marks the sixth instalment of Comic Con Africa, and as the festivities return, they promise to provide a sensational celebration greater than ever before, all proudly Ampli5ed by 5FM.

The event is a kaleidoscope of creativity, passion, and fandom, encompassing everything from comic books and beloved TV series to blockbuster movies and the exhilarating world of gaming. Convention-goers can expect a treasure trove of entertainment, including character dress-ups, Cosplay contests, and an expansive Artist Alley featuring over 150 local and international artists ready to showcase their talent and fan art.

This year, attendees will have the extraordinary opportunity to meet international stars such as Misha Collins, renowned for his role as Castiel in the cult series Supernatural. Comic Con Africa has carefully curated an array of activities that cater to fans of all ages, particularly in the newly established KidsCon zone. This dedicated space located in Hall 6 will offer the latest collectibles and toys, fun gaming competitions, and exciting activities that ensure families enjoy an action-packed day out.

Moreover, as part of the immersive experience, gaming tournaments, world-class activations, an array of food trucks, and a vast selection of pop culture merchandise will be available to complete the ultimate fan experience. Comic Con Africa is recognised as not just an event, but as a phenomenal gathering that combines creativity, entertainment, and community spirit.

In a bid to further enhance the convention’s vibrancy, 5FM will be broadcasting live from Comic Con Africa. Listeners can tune into Top 40 on 5 with Harrison Mkhize on 30 August, followed by The 5 Takeover with Jodell Tantij on 31 August. These broadcasts will feature exclusive interviews with international guests, live updates from the Con, and epic giveaways that will keep both attendees and listeners engaged and thrilled.

Carla Massmann, the Show Director for Comic Con Africa, expressed her enthusiasm about the partnership with 5FM, stating, “5FM has been an important friend of the show from its early days. We are thrilled to continue our partnership with this icon of South African broadcasting. 5FM’s presence brings a special energy and vibe all of its own, and we look forward to the excitement they’ll be bringing to Comic Con Africa’s 2025 edition.”
