Johannesburg, South Africa – 31 October 2025
Get ready, Joburg! The Boxer Super Run is sprinting into the City of Gold for the very first time — and the stage is set for an electrifying showdown between two of South Africa’s fastest men: Luan Munnik and Ryan Mphahlele.
Taking place at Marks Park Sports Club on Sunday, 09
November 2025, the 5km race promises a thrilling clash of champions, as Munnik, winner of the 2024 Tshwane leg, faces off against Mphahlele, the 2025 Durban titleholder.
“The 5km distance is where speed and endurance collide,” says Munnik. “It’s fast, tactical, and tests complete fitness. Joburg has a strong running culture, and racing at altitude adds an extra challenge. I’m really looking forward to it.”
Fresh off his victory in Durban, Mphahlele is equally fired up for Joburg.
“I’m not chasing a time — I’m chasing the win,” he says. “The Boxer Super Run has an incredible vibe, and the R147,000 prize purse definitely adds excitement. I can’t wait to test myself on Joburg’s hills.”

Joining them is Chris Mhlanga, a consistent top-five finisher and one of the country’s most respected road athletes. With his trademark endurance and strong finishing kick, Mhlanga is determined to make his presence felt on the podium.
“The Boxer Super Run is the best and biggest 5km event in South Africa,” Mhlanga says. “It’s not just about competition — it’s about community, passion, and celebrating the sport we love.”
The R147,200 prize purse will be shared across the Elite and Open Waves, with the top eight men and women in the elite division walking away with well-deserved rewards — including R20,000 for each winner.
According to Lee-Ann Pillay, Head of Marketing at Boxer Superstores:
“Seeing two champions like Munnik and Mphahlele go head-to-head in Joburg is going to be something special. Add in the energy of the social runners and families, and you’ve got an unforgettable day of racing, community and celebration.”
