Johannesburg – 30 October 2025

Joburg’s running community is gearing up for an adrenaline-fueled Sunday as the Boxer Super Run makes its Johannesburg debut on 9 November 2025 at Marks Park Sports Club, promising a morning of elite athleticism, community spirit, and pure running joy.

Leading the charge in the ELITE WOMEN’S WAVE is none other than Glenrose Xaba, the undisputed queen of the Boxer Super Run series, who has already claimed victory in both Durban (2025) and Tshwane (2024). Xaba will be joined by a stellar line-up featuring Karabo More, Zanthe Taljaart, and Cian Oldknow — all set to make this Joburg edition a fiercely competitive and emotionally charged race.

Glenrose Xaba Eyes Historic Hat-Trick

With a calm confidence and steely focus, Glenrose Xaba admits that this race could be a defining one in her career.

“Winning in Joburg would complete a special streak — taking gold at all three debuts would be something I’m really proud of,” Xaba said. “Each race has its own challenges, but to come out on top again would be a great reward for the hard work and consistency my team and I have put in.”

The Boxer Athletics Club star says the Boxer Super Run represents more than a race — it’s a movement that celebrates the joy of running, the power of competition, and community connection.

“The atmosphere is always electric. It feels like a celebration of running — not just for athletes, but for everyone who shows up,” she added.

With a R147,000 combined prize purse up for grabs, Xaba says the event’s commitment to rewarding excellence keeps athletes motivated and invested in their craft.

Karabo More: “It’s About Testing Yourself Against the Best”

Xaba’s training partner and fellow top contender Karabo More says she’s excited to take on the Joburg challenge, describing the event as a platform that “unites performance and passion.”

“Hosting a world-class 5km backed by Boxer shows their dedication to uplifting athletes and inspiring the community,” More said. “Joburg’s running culture is incredible — the energy is unmatched. It’s the perfect place for this race to thrive.”

For More, the prize money isn’t the only motivation:

“It’s an amazing incentive, but for me, it’s about showing up, running strong, and leaving everything on the road. I want to enjoy it, run smart, and finish proud.”

Rising Stars Bring Excitement to the Line

Zanthe Taljaart is ready to make her debut at the Boxer Super Run, calling the event “a celebration of speed, strength, and spirit.”

“The 5km distance is fast and tactical — it tests your endurance and racing strategy. I’ll be going for a sub-17-minute finish if the conditions allow,” she said.

Meanwhile, Cian Oldknow, returning from injury and illness, says the Joburg leg represents both a comeback and a new beginning.

“It’s been a long road back, but I’m excited to be racing again. The 5km is a great test of fitness and focus, and this series is helping redefine short-distance racing in South Africa,” Oldknow shared.

More Than a Race — A Festival of Fitness

The Boxer Super Run Joburg is not just for elites. With waves designed for open runners, social participants, and families, the event promises something for everyone — from serious competitors to those just looking for fun and fitness.

According to Lee-Ann Pillay, Head of Marketing at Boxer Superstores:

“The ELITE WAVES are always a highlight — they bring incredible drama and energy to the day. But what truly makes the Boxer Super Run special is how it unites elite athletes and everyday runners in one vibrant celebration of community, movement, and determination.”
