In a significant move towards improving public health and tackling environmental challenges, the Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority (EWSETA) is taking vital steps to implement sustainable clean cooking solutions across South Africa. This initiative aligns with the objectives of the G20 Clean Cooking Legacy, which aims to enhance communities’ livelihoods while ensuring access to safe and efficient energy resources.

With the overarching vision of fostering healthier lifestyles and reducing reliance on harmful fossil fuels, EWSETA’s initiatives are designed to empower local communities. Through a series of workshops and training sessions, they aim to equip community leaders and members with the know-how to transition to clean cooking technologies that are beneficial to health and environmentally sustainable.

“The G20 Clean Cooking Legacy provides us with the framework to enact transformative changes in the energy landscape,” said an EWSETA spokesperson. “By leveraging clean cooking technologies, we can improve air quality in homes, ultimately reducing the burden on health systems while also addressing pressing climate challenges.”

The project focuses on promoting the adoption of clean energy stoves and other technologies, which can significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions associated with traditional cooking methods. Furthermore, these efforts come at a crucial time for South Africa, where energy insecurity and rising living costs have led to an urgent call for affordable and sustainable energy solutions.

Through partnerships with various stakeholders, including government entities, NGOs, and the private sector, EWSETA is committed to ensuring these initiatives reach the most vulnerable communities across the country. Workshops conducted in various regions will also provide insights into the benefits of these technologies, highlighting not only the health advantages but also economic opportunities tied to clean energy.

Community members will be empowered to take ownership of their energy solutions, paving the way for a more sustainable future. As part of their training, they will also learn about the maintenance and repair of clean cooking appliances, reinforcing self-sufficiency and resilience.
