Soweto – 13 October 2025
Gauteng MEC for Education, Mr Matome Chiloane, is set to host the Maths, Science and ICT (MSI) Schools of Specialisation Festival on Tuesday, 14 October 2025, at Letsibogo Girls Maths, Science and ICT School of Specialisation in Meadowlands, Soweto.
The festival will unite all Gauteng Schools of Specialisation (SoS) with a focus on Maths, Science, ICT, and Engineering, creating a vibrant platform for learners to showcase their groundbreaking innovations, scientific experiments, and technology-driven projects.
According to the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE), the MSI SoS Festival is designed to celebrate academic excellence, creativity, and problem-solving among learners who are shaping the province’s future through science and technology.
“Our Schools of Specialisation are a reflection of Gauteng’s commitment to equipping learners with the skills needed for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This festival is a celebration of the innovation, talent, and excellence that exists in our schools,”
said MEC Chiloane ahead of the event.
The festival is expected to feature exhibitions, live demonstrations, robotics showcases, and learner-led presentations, giving attendees a glimpse into the next generation of inventors, engineers, and digital thinkers emerging from Gauteng’s classrooms.
Hosting the event at Letsibogo Girls School — a renowned institution empowering young women in STEM — underscores the province’s focus on inclusive education and female representation in technology and science fields.

Through the Schools of Specialisation model, the GDE continues to expand opportunities for learners by aligning education with Gauteng’s economic growth priorities. Each school specialises in a key discipline such as Maths and Science, Engineering, ICT, Commerce, Arts, and Sports, preparing learners for post-school pathways in high-demand industries.
The department believes that platforms like the MSI Festival not only recognise excellence but also inspire collaboration between schools, educators, industry experts, and higher education institutions.
Members of the media are invited to attend the event, which begins at 10:00 AM at Letsibogo Girls Maths, Science & ICT School of Specialisation, 607 Meadowlands East, Zone 3, Soweto.
